JIMMY HENDRIX 40th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE WEEKEND

On September 17th, 1970 the world greatest lead guitarist dies in a Notting Hill Gate, London, apartment aged just 27.

We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of this day with a weekend of Hendrix-related events including special tours of London and a concert by a renowned Hendrix Experience tribute band at The Troubadour, a basement club Hendrix played and which remains virtually unchanged since the day.

Due to the exclusive nature of some of the events and attractions we are including, we only have a limited number of tickets available. Early booking is very much recommended. If you're coming from outside of London, we can also book your accommodation in the hotel Hendrix used when first coming to London.

HENDRIX TOUR ITINERARY 2010

Friday, 17th September

Arrival day with tour participants making their way independently to our hotel base.  We use the actual hotel where Jimi stayed during his first months in the city and where he wrote ‘Stone Free’. Maybe you’ll get the room he had!

Tonight we celebrate Hendrix’s life and music in the bar of the hotel. An exhibition of Hendrix memorabilia, DVD’s, rare recording, and guest speakers recounting their personal memories of Hendrix will add to the atmosphere. There will also be a memorabilia table and the opportunity for fans to swap collectables.

Saturday, 18th September

Today, we explore Hendrix’s London. You’ll enjoy a magnificent day tracing Jimi’s London heritage in the company of an expert guide. Jimi lived in London for three years, stamping his personality on the city and leaving behind numerous sites with stories to tell. You’ll see:

  • where he first performed in public as an impromptu guest of the Cream;
  • the very first house he went to on arrival in the city
  • clubs where he played in front of the Beatles and Stones
  • places where he partied
  • where he recorded his first single ‘Hey Joe’
  • the Royal Albert Hall, venue for his ‘sold out’ final European tour
  • where he played his final ‘gig’ with Eric Burdon
  • his various apartments, including the one he rented from Ringo
  • where he bought his stage gear in the heart of the ‘swinging 60s’ Kings Road
  • his management and record company offices
  • rehearsal rooms, photographic studios and TV Studios
  • music shops where he got his equipment
  • where he set his first guitar alight
  • and where he eventually died.

We recreate the great man’s life in the capital of rock’n’roll!

Tonight, we enjoy a truly fantastic party with the top Hendrix Experience tribute band performing at the ‘Troubadour’, a basement club virtually unchanged since the day Jimi himself played there.

Sunday, 19th September

Today, following breakfast, we enjoy a morning ‘Rock Legends’ tour of London. You’ll see dozens of other rock’n’roll related sites featuring a real super-group line-up. This is the tour that sets Jimi into his time context as we explore the haunts and habitats of The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Who, Cream, Pink Floyd and a host of other legendary bands. You’ll walk across Abbey Road, see where the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream played out and see where legendary album cover photographs were shot.

Our Hendrix commemorative weekend continues with an afternoon at the British Music Experience, the great new interactive museum/attraction at the O2. Here they have Hendrix memorabilia, including stage suits and original artwork in addition to other fantastic rock stuff from Mods to Punks and Britpop.

Our tour finishes at the Hard Rock Café where you are free to enjoy beer and burger and also visit the memorabilia vault which houses Hendrix’s famed Gibson ‘Flying V’.
